After about nine years, we have finally painted over the vegetables that some gay man thought should line the walls where they meet the ceiling in the kitchen. The only reason I have ever given any credit to this display of creativity gone awry is because he actually used real vegetables, dipped them in paint and smushed them against the wall. He tried. He failed, but at least he tried. If you didn’t know there were actual vegetables used, you’d think it was the glue left over after someone took down some bad vegetable motif wallpaper strip.
In addition, the decks have all been painted, the front of the house is repainted with subtler, more modern colors and we have a fully refurbished front stoop and all new stairs leading to said stoop.
And now we are going to move out. Great.

Spanish Rice
Just a note to say that Calliope ate a full helping of my home made spanish rice this morning. I made it about four days ago and it doesn’t taste much like spanish rice, but it is actually quite good. I’ve been trying to give her some everyday since. She loved it when I had just finished it and it was still hot off the stove. And then finally this morning! It makes my day to make something for her and have her like it 🙂
Family Lunch
We went to BJ’s Brewery in Colma for lunch today as a way to spend time together in our new car! We ordered Calliope her own meal for the first time ever. She had grilled cheese and steamed vegetables. Of course she ate several large bites of the grilled cheese, none of the vegetables and mostly French fries from my plate!
Domestic Partners
Today, Michael and I went to the P.O. Plus in the Castro and had them notarize our certificate of Domestic Partnership. It was the most unceremonious process in the whole world, but at least we were acknowledged as the 1,691st couple to do so at that location. We are doing it for tax purposes and insurance purposes, but admittedly we both were feeling a bit romantic all day… One day we will get married and have a larger celebration sharing our love with all our friends and family.
I’ve got the remote!
Hanging out in nothing but a bow, her favorite toy is the tiny apple remote…
I'm still standing
Walked into Calliope’s room today after a few minutes of her whining… she was supposed to be napping and the morning nap is usually her best (read longest and most productive for me). For whatever reason today, she decided to wake up after about an hour, which is about half the normal morning nap… ugh… so i traipse into her room to find her peering over the side of the miniature crib she is in just babbling away about god knows what, AND with a paci in her mouth. I nearly fell over in astonishment, but as it is, I’m still standing.
Today was our first day with the new babysitter Sara. She was coming around 10 to have an hour of uninterrupted explanation of “how we do things”. Of course, Calliope was not going along with the schedule and was once again making enough noise in her crib for me to realize she wasn’t sleeping. This, not even five minutes after Sara walked in. Her timing really is amazing. But even more amazing was the fact that when we went in there to get her, there she was again, peering over the edge, happy as a pig in mud, knuckles white from grasping so hard at the side, and ready to get up out of bed!
So, as is the case 90% of the time, she got her way and had a half ass nap this morning. We made up for it later (and now) but we are generally ahead of the regular schedule and when Michael comes home to relieve me (pool night, yay!) he’ll be happy to know she is going to bed on time tonight. A welcome gift after a long day of work, I’m sure!
As a surprise, I’m going to not tell him about the standing in the crib. I hope he experiences it himself “for the first time”. Plus, I’m curious as to whether he will be standing afterwards!! Love you honey.

Doc visit today
Went and saw the gorgeous doc today. Just for a flu shot follow up. It seems we didn’t schedule the Sears spread out vaccinations for this month, so we get to go back next week. He also informed me that he takes baby aspirin and fish oil everyday which he thinks is part of the reason he doesn’t get sick anymore. I’m gonna try it out and see what happens!
Hopefully new pics soon
Well, I’ve tried to use this blog the last couple of days and make it a habit. I truly want to have these entries for Calliope when she gets older. I think they will be interesting for her to see, especially the pictures. However, my iphone app isn’t cooperating at the moment so none of the pictures I keep posting are making it to the blog. Very sad indeed. But I’m sure Michael will help us out with this as soon as he can get the time.
Just waiting for the phone to ring
Since Wednesday night, Mikey and I have been waiting for ‘The Call’. Wednesday night, our birthmom texted us saying that she was starting to dilate and efface. So we’ve been in this constant state of waiting since. Every time one of our phones ring or beep, we jump thinking that this could be the call. It hasn’t been yet, so we’re still waiting.
